This one week intensive is for students at all levels and instruments/voice, from students preparing for conservatory jazz auditions to students just trying out jazz for the first time.
Jazz Lab features jazz faculty from New England Conservatory, the College, and Preparatory School, including both jazz dept. chairs, Berklee, Juilliard, and MIT. The program includes masterclasses and faculty concerts from NYC jazz innovators like Michael Mayo, and online teaching sensation Adam Neely.
Faculty plays with students in ensembles, teach private lessons, classroom courses and masterclasses during the day, and perform faculty concerts in the evenings.
Students have the option to stay on campus or commute each day.
All instruments/voice/composers welcome. Offerings include:
Ensembles – (faculty serve as band members and arrangers)
Prep Ensembles meet for 5 rehearsals (2 hours and 15 minutes each), and a 45 min. concert for a total of 12 hours.
Private Lessons – (in any subject, instrument or voice)
All of the above is flexibly scheduled on dates that work for the students between July 5 and August 9. The schedule will be worked out with the department chairs during the placement process.
Placement auditions are held in Jordan Hall room 356 at 290 Huntington Ave, Boston MA 02115. Department chairs will accompany students at the audition. The audition dates and times are:
Sunday, June 5, from 2-5 PM
Monday June 6 from 6-8 PM
If you cannot attend either placement audition meeting date, please contact department chair David Zoffer by emailing prepjazz@necmusic.edu. Online auditions are also available and can be scheduled by e-mailing the department chair as well.
NOTE! You must complete the placement audition form before you schedule a placement audition meeting.

New students need to fill out a Covid-19 Attestation Form two business days before entering the NEC campus: Visitor/Guest COVID-19 Attestation Form. Students currently enrolled in NEC from Spring 2022 do not need to fill out the Covid-19 Attestation Form to come to campus.
